To All Musicians, Conan Pwns You With This Advice

January 15, 2014

If you haven’t seen it yet, watch this motivating interview with Jack White and Conan O’ Brien. If you don’t have time to watch the whole hour I totally understand but check out what Coco himself had to say about the thing I love to talk about most on this blog: hard work.

“I think talent is overrated. I think talent is important, but the real accelerant, the real coefficient that’s the mystery number that makes the whole thing work is hard, hard freakin’ work.”

These are two very successful entertainers/artists who understand what it takes. Sure, they start talking about some more specific stuff throughout the talk (technology, guitars, etc) but they really harp on the theme of work and preparation.

Although Jack is pretty sporadic, It doesn’t hurt to write out a set list. And it sure doesn’t hurt to practice. We are naturally lazy, but doing what is only natural won’t get you much of anywhere. I could go on and on (in fact, I already have in the other blog posts linked throughout this article), but the point remains: hard work pays off.

So be like Coco and work at it. Just don’t model your hair after him.
